Monitoring the impact on sandwich terns

 In News

As part of our floating wind farm pilot project, 16 sandwich terns have been fitted with GPS beacons to track their movements in the Gulf of Lion during their breeding season.

Monitoring sandwich terns before and after installing the wind farm will help us determine whether the turbines have an impact on the birds’ behavior. The data collected so far offers interesting insights into their migratory, feeding and breeding habits.

Monitored since May 26, 2022, one of the sandwich terns returned to coast near Sète after traveling over 10,000 km across Italy, Morocco and Mauritania!

Tracking has been carried out in close partnership with the Conservatoire d’espaces naturels d’Occitanie and the Eoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion (EFGL). The aim? Simultaneously promote renewable energy and preserve marine biodiversity.
